The simple act of walking is an age-old method for people from around the world to connect with one another. Since 2007, the Abraham Path Initiative (API) has seeded walking trails in the Middle East to introduce people to an ancient land. Walking can be a tool for deepening understanding, experiencing cultures, and fostering friendships across challenging divides. API shines a light on the tradition of hospitality in this region, emphasizing how people welcome strangers in honor of Abraham/Ibrahim, the spiritual ancestor of over half of humanity.
In this trip to northern Palestine, you will be immersed in the local reality and political challenges of the West Bank. On the same path, you will be walking on the vast, green hills and connecting with people in such a way that may feel like a parallel universe. In the Busboys and Poets spirit of “community gathering”, giving and receiving through the element of reciprocity will come to life as you explore the olive groves, cook, eat, and walk together.
Lodging will include family homestays & guesthouses. Activities will include: olive-picking during the year’s primary harvest season in the hills of Jenin & Nablus, baking bread with hosts, exploring the connection to the land, cooking together, and a Spoken Word evening in Ramallah.

Participants have the option of arriving at Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv or at Queen Alia International Airport in Amman. Please note that arriving in Amman, Jordan costs an additional $250 per person for lodging, transfer to and across the border, visa, and taxes. Participants choosing this option must also plan to arrive in Amman no later than October 20th in the evening to ensure the travel time necessary for transfer to Jerusalem, where the journey will begin.
Physical Considerations *Important*
The course is demanding in terms of physical activity. Hikes will be an average of 12 – 16 km per day involving walking uphill, downhill, and on hilly terrain. To that purpose, we strongly advise participants to be prepared for physical activity on this course.
In order to make the most of the experience, participants will be invited to participate in a pre-departure webinar leading up to the journey.
Participants will also be required to have the appropriate gear for the hike. A suggested packing list will be included as part of the pre-departure information pack with ample time for questions.

A detailed itinerary will be provided by the Abraham Path Initiative for participants outlining further details. Rates exclude: airfare, any meal or accommodation not included in 8-day itinerary, personal expenses, hiking gear (shoes, packs, walking poles, etc.), tips for guide, restaurants, and hotel staff, and travel insurance.
Please note that some of the accommodation will be in homestays and guesthouses and all of the overnight stays will include shared lodging with another participant. If you would like a single room where it’s available (not in homestays or guesthouses), there will be an added cost. Please request about booking and registration.
We recommend bringing an additional $300 in cash for other personal expenses. It can be exchanged to Shekels either prior to travel or in Jerusalem.
Payment and Cancellation Policies
A deposit of no less than 30% of the value of the trip will be paid upon registration. Full payment must be made by Friday, August 16th. Participants also have the option of paying the full amount upon registration.
Registration is open until Friday August 16, 2019 at midnight. Registration is limited to fifteen participants and will be closed after all spots are filled.
From deposit receipt date to 51 days or more prior to departure: $300.00 cancellation fee per person.
Between 50 days and 36 days: $600.00 cancellation fee per person.
Between 35 days and 26 days: $1500.00 cancellation fee per person.
Between 25 days and 16 days: $2250.00 cancellation fee per person.
Within 15 days before arrival and no shows: Cancellation fee of 100% of trip cost will apply.
