Ibrahim Yolu Culture Guide
The Ibrahim Yolu (“Abraham Path” in Turkish) was hit hard in the last decade by terrorism from ISIS, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the devastating 2023 earthquake whose epicenter was a mere seventy miles from the start of its first stage. In the last two years, this area has taken great strides in its recovery and is now one of API’s most promising trails. The Ibrahim Yolu passes through the place where both agriculture and the Abrahamic religions began, offering walkers the opportunity to build a deeper knowledge of the ties that bind so many people together through history. There are, however, cultural barriers that must be overcome for the trail to host the numbers of travelers it deserves.
Though API has sponsored work in rebuilding the damaged physical infrastructure of the Path, the next step is to strengthen the human and technological infrastructure required to build a critical mass of travelers. To achieve this goal, API is developing a new website that hikers will use to plan their trips and learn about the region, along with a connected mobile app that features tools to enhance their experiences on the trail. The Ibrahim Yolu Culture Guide is an important part of content building for both platforms.
The Culture Guide project aims to support the human and technological infrastructure of the Abraham Path in southeastern Turkey by creating a multimedia culture guide for international walkers. This guide will offer language tools, etiquette advice, and homestay-specific guidance, helping both travelers and local communities have enriching experiences along the trail.
